Karnataka Opposition Slams Government Over Rs 2,500 Drought Relief

The BJP leader criticized the administration for opting for a fixed family stipend instead of the requested per-acre compensation. According to Ashoka, cultivation costs for a single acre—encompassing seeds, labor, and irrigation—frequently exceed Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000. He contended that the government’s relief, which barely surpasses the Rs 2,000 provided under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, ignores the reality of farmers who are currently struggling with mounting debt and a lack of fodder for livestock.

Ashoka urged the government to reconsider its priorities, noting that 177 taluks are officially drought-hit. While the opposition had demanded Rs 50,000 per acre, he argued that a minimum of Rs 25,000 was necessary to provide genuine support. The BJP has pledged to escalate the issue to the public, accusing the Congress government of diverting funds toward political interests while neglecting the state's food producers. Ashoka warned that the opposition will continue to pressure the administration until adequate compensation is secured for those in distress.
