Congress MP Reddy Blames BRS Governance for Telangana Power Crisis

The dispute centers on the operational health of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited, which Reddy claims was systematically hollowed out between 2014 and 2023. During this period, the state failed to initiate new mining projects while 18 existing mines were shuttered due to exhausted reserves. Reddy alleged that lucrative mining opportunities were diverted from the public sector to private players connected to BRS leadership. This policy shift, according to the MP, forced the state’s power distribution companies into bankruptcy, citing a massive ₹35,000 crore debt burden owed by Singareni to DISCOMs.

This confrontation follows recent accusations from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, who criticized the current Congress government for alleged apathy regarding the Jurala Project. KTR claimed that nearly 9 TMC of water remained trapped in the reservoir while crops in the surrounding ayacut withered. Reddy dismissed these claims as deflection, asserting that the current administration is actively working to resolve power and water projects that had been stalled for years due to lingering cases before the National Green Tribunal.
