Kashmiri activist urges UN intervention in Gilgit-Baltistan detentions

Beigh, representing the interests of the Awami Action Committee of Gilgit-Baltistan (AAC-GB), highlighted the systemic targeting of coalition members including Nusrat Hussain, Mehboob Wali, Nafees Advocate, and Mehar Ali. These individuals currently face charges under the Fourth Schedule of Pakistan’s anti-terror laws, a move Beigh characterized as a deliberate attempt to suppress a broad movement of social, trade, and student organizations.

The activist argued that the Pakistani administration is utilizing intimidation, force, and torture to dismantle legitimate political discourse. By framing democratic protest as an act of violence, the state effectively isolates those seeking fundamental rights. Beigh urged the Council to demand the immediate release of the detained committee members and to launch an independent investigation into what he described as a pattern of arbitrary detention and state-sponsored political repression.
