NSE Listing Marks New Chapter for India’s Capital Markets

With 44 percent of the anchor book captured by Foreign Institutional Investors, the National Stock Exchange’s debut on the BSE signals more than just a public offering. MD and CEO Ashish Kumar Chauhan views the move as a definitive proxy for the nation's broader economic trajectory.

Global fund managers are gravitating toward the exchange, drawn by its transparent regulatory framework and its position as a top-tier global market leader. Chauhan noted that for international investors, the exchange serves as a primary vehicle to gain exposure to India’s growth, which has been consistently mirrored by the bourse’s performance over its 32-year history. The exchange currently supports a vast ecosystem of 130 million individual investors and 270 million accounts.

Despite market jitters regarding the expiration of pre-IPO lock-in periods, Chauhan dismissed fears of a supply overhang. He pointed to a shareholder base characterized by long-term commitment, noting that many investors were reluctant to sell even during the IPO process itself. With the stock now cross-listed on the BSE, the exchange aims to maintain rigorous disclosure standards, though Chauhan clarified that there are no immediate plans to take any subsidiaries public.
