Mukesh Sahani Attacks Election Commission Amid Internal Dissent Reports

The controversy centers on an investigation detailing 14 formal objections filed by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over a ten-month period. These officials allege that key decisions, including the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and changes to voter registration forms, were pushed through without the required consensus among the three-member panel. The dissent reached a point where the two commissioners bypassed traditional internal channels to contact the Cabinet Secretary directly regarding IT oversight and altered work allocations.

Sahani, speaking to ANI, framed these internal conflicts as evidence of the Commission operating as an extension of the BJP. He accused the body of undermining the democratic process, suggesting that opposition leaders would eventually hold election officials accountable for these alleged discrepancies.

In response, the Election Commission dismissed the characterization of these events as a crisis. The poll panel maintained that the documented queries represent standard internal checks and technical suggestions designed to ensure legal compliance. ECI officials asserted that all final decisions possess full legal sanction and that the commission operates through unanimous consent, despite the public surfacing of internal friction.
