Ex-IPS Officer Humayun Kabir Alleges Assault at Kolkata Police Station

The confrontation unfolded shortly after 8:00 PM when Kabir arrived at the station to inquire about two detained party associates. According to his account, he was identified by a bystander as a Trinamool Congress member, prompting an immediate physical attack. Kabir stated that he was grabbed by the collar and struck by the mob, resulting in a severe neck injury that left him dizzy and eventually unconscious. Police officers present at the scene subsequently transported him to a medical facility.

This incident followed a volatile evening in the Mukundpur area, where the AITC reported that their IT cell chief, Upasana Chowdhury, had been targeted. Kabir had initially contacted the Purba Jadavpur station regarding the reported attack on Chowdhury’s residence, but he claimed officers dismissed the reports as minor. Trinamool Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien echoed these concerns, alleging that party workers in Wards 78 and 109 were also subjected to violence. The AITC leadership has characterized these events as part of a broader pattern of intimidation by the BJP, accusing local law enforcement of failing to protect party members or, in some instances, complicity.
