Akhilesh Yadav Challenges ECI Integrity Over Alleged Voter Purge

Yadav’s accusations follow an investigation revealing that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi raised formal objections 14 times over 10 months regarding electoral roll procedures and the Special Intensive Revision process. The SP leader argued these internal fractures validate long-standing concerns regarding the integrity of the commission, claiming that his repeated appeals to the body were ignored. He further criticized the Uttar Pradesh government’s reliance on demolition tactics, characterizing the administration as a regime that tramples on constitutional values and the dignity of its citizens.

Addressing the ongoing controversy in Ayodhya, Yadav denied any opposition to the Ram Temple, positioning his party instead as a defender of residents displaced by aggressive urban development. He claimed that local residents have turned against the ruling BJP due to the destruction of homes and property. While Yadav continues to push for accountability, the Election Commission maintains that all decisions, including those questioned in the report, were reached unanimously by the full commission, including Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Previous attempts by opposition lawmakers to impeach the CEC have been rejected by both the Lok Sabha Speaker and the Rajya Sabha Chairman.
