Speaking at the JPMorgan India Investor Conference, Dimon cautioned that the US should engage in direct dialogue with New Delhi rather than pushing through broad restrictions. The core issue lies in the specific technical requirements of Indian refineries, which are calibrated for certain grades of crude. Replacing these supplies is not a simple logistical swap, and forcing a transition could trigger volatility in global oil pricing.
His comments arrive in the wake of the Lindsey O Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026, which grants the US authority to impose tariffs of up to 100 percent on nations purchasing Russian energy. While the legislation aims to choke off financial resources for Moscow’s ongoing war in Ukraine, Dimon emphasized that the ripple effects on world markets and the operational realities of foreign energy sectors require a more nuanced diplomatic approach.
