Lula opens UN General Assembly with push for Security Council reform

The Brazilian delegation arrives with a focus on reshaping global governance, arguing that the existing Security Council architecture fails to represent the modern realities of Latin America and Africa. The visit also serves as a platform for the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative aimed at aligning financial institutions and governments to bolster global food security. Between sessions, the president’s schedule includes high-level meetings with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, and US political figures including Senator Bernie Sanders.
