US Military Expands Strategic Reach to Cislunar Space

The US Space Force is actively refining its doctrine to defend interests as human activity pushes further into the cislunar region. This shift follows disclosures by Air Force Secretary Troy Meink, who recently confirmed the deployment of on-orbit space control weapons. According to Lt. Gen. Gregory Gagnon, the service must adapt to a landscape where potential adversaries, specifically the People’s Republic of China, are pursuing military capabilities far beyond Earth’s atmosphere.

Beijing has countered these developments by emphasizing its commitment to the peaceful use of space. Foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that China opposes the weaponization of the cosmos, even as the nation continues to build its own dedicated military space troops. With major powers now openly discussing orbital warfare, the traditional boundaries of terrestrial conflict are increasingly being redrawn to include the vast, silent expanse between Earth and the Moon.
