The TechEU Advisory Council will guide the EIB Group’s strategy as it funnels capital into high-stakes sectors, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, semiconductors, and biotechnology. By integrating perspectives from industry veterans and academic leaders, the bank seeks to move beyond basic research funding, focusing instead on the commercial maturity required for European firms to compete on the international stage.
EIB Group Vice-President Karl Nehammer emphasized that the initiative is built on the necessity of connecting innovation with industrial leadership. The council includes figures such as former ASML chief executive Peter Wennink, SAP SE supervisory board chairman Pekka Ala-Pietilä, and Trinity College Dublin provost Linda Doyle. Meeting twice annually, these experts will provide independent oversight to ensure that the TechEU programme addresses the structural hurdles preventing promising startups from achieving significant market scale within the European Union.
