Two Rutgers Alumni Killed in Manhattan Subway Accident

Video footage of the incident captures a chaotic moment on the platform before the pair ended up on the tracks, though accounts regarding the sequence of events remain conflicting. While initial reports suggested one victim may have jumped to assist the other, law enforcement sources cited by the New York Post indicated that Kaul may have entered the track area first, with Chitre following in an attempt to help. The train was unable to brake in time, resulting in a fatal collision that necessitated the evacuation of roughly 100 passengers from the cars.

Chitre, a resident of Dayton, New Jersey, had recently graduated from the Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences and was employed at Acadia Pharmaceuticals. Kaul, from Sayreville, had attended the Rutgers Business School. Rutgers spokesperson Dory Devlin expressed the university's condolences regarding the loss of the two former students. Authorities recovered the bodies from beneath the third and fourth cars of the train, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding their descent onto the tracks is ongoing.
