During the proceedings, the judge criticized state agencies for permitting Deutsch to remain in the foster care system for as long as she did. The case emerged after school officials reported the teenager missing due to chronic unexcused absences. Investigators discovered that Deutsch had orchestrated the girl’s relocation to Texas to live with an acquaintance, facilitating the transport of a monkey back to her Winfield home. Prosecutors alleged that Deutsch intended to continue collecting state foster care stipends for the teen despite her abandonment. Upon discovery, Texas Child Protective Services located the girl living in unsafe, unsanitary conditions surrounded by wild animals. Under the terms of her probation, Deutsch must undergo mental health evaluations and cognitive behavioral therapy to remain out of custody.
