Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay addressed the floor, promising a shift toward strictly impartial policing. He framed the role of law enforcement as a binary force, stating that officers must act as allies to the virtuous and adversaries to the wicked, free from political influence. His remarks followed mounting pressure from the opposition to address a spike in murders and systemic lapses in security.
To curb the violence, the administration is focusing on dismantling local drug networks and addressing underlying vendettas identified as the primary drivers of recent homicides. Vijay cited the recent arrest of 36 suspects in connection with a student murder in Coimbatore as evidence of a zero-tolerance approach. Moving forward, the government plans to prioritize the protection of women and children, while dismantling the perception of police stations as centers of political power.
