Positioned 36,000 kilometers above the planet, EOS-05 serves as India’s first imaging satellite operating from a geosynchronous orbit. This 2,367-kilogram payload provides continuous surveillance of coastlines, weather patterns, and disaster-prone zones, while high-resolution cameras bolster border observation capabilities. The launch occurs at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, marking a high-stakes effort to restore confidence in the agency's launch reliability.
The GSLV-F17 vehicle stands 51.7 meters tall with a liftoff mass of 420.5 tonnes. Its ascent relies on a three-stage architecture: a massive S-139 solid motor augmented by four liquid strap-ons, followed by a liquid-fueled second stage, and finally the indigenous CUS-5 cryogenic upper stage. This final component, powered by liquid hydrogen and oxygen, executes the critical maneuver to place the satellite into its sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit.
