Beyond corruption charges, the protest targets the Karnataka Government Parks (Preservation) (Amendment) Bill, 2026. Ashoka accused Chief Minister DK Shivakumar of bowing to a real estate mafia by authorizing the use of five percent of park land for utility projects. Despite Shivakumar’s promise to review the legislation, the BJP maintains that the bill violates Supreme Court protections for public spaces. The party has scheduled demonstrations at Bengaluru parks this weekend and plans to petition the Governor to block the bill, citing hypocrisy in the Congress party’s stance toward private developers.
