The cohort of manufacturers, which includes Alcon, Astellas Pharma, and Teva Pharmaceuticals, joins 17 industry giants already operating under the administration’s most-favoured-nation pricing regime. President Donald Trump claimed the move brings 90 percent of the domestic market under his pricing structure, leaving little room for dissent among remaining players. While specific financial terms remain private, reports indicate the concessions cover treatments for hemophilia, glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease, and various cancers, extending lower rates to state Medicaid programs.
Beyond price cuts, the White House secured commitments for a $19.6 billion investment in domestic manufacturing capacity. Participants like Sun Pharma and Astellas are further required to donate significant product volumes to the Strategic Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients Reserve, a measure designed to insulate the U.S. supply chain from foreign dependency. In exchange for these contributions, the companies avoid the threat of new tariffs and the imposition of restrictive Medicare pricing models.
