The investment, valued between $15,001 and $50,000, was one of over 1,000 stock trades executed on June 23. While the disclosure was signed by the president on August 12, it only became public record late last week. This stake complicates the administration’s relationship with Elon Musk’s company, particularly as the White House actively pushes to expand commercial space launch operations—a sector where SpaceX currently holds a clear lead.
White House spokesman Davis Ingle stated that third-party financial institutions manage the president’s portfolio, mirroring recognized indexes like the Schwab 1000. Ingle maintained that neither the president nor his family exerts control over specific trades or timing. Despite these assurances, the overlap between private investment and federal regulatory power remains a point of scrutiny, especially as SpaceX continues to seek approvals from government agencies while serving as a primary military contractor.
