While the White House remains tight-lipped on specific targets, the move threatens to disrupt relations with major energy importers like China and India. The administration asserts that by cutting off the regime's remaining financial lifelines, it can finally force a shift in Tehran’s strategic calculus.

Analysts remain divided on the efficacy of this approach. Richard Goldberg, a former sanctions coordinator now at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, suggests that the combination of military strikes and a naval blockade has created a unique, high-pressure environment. Conversely, skeptics point to Iran’s five-decade history of resilience against American financial penalties. Ali Vaez of the International Crisis Group warns that the policy possesses a critical blind spot: the Iranian leadership views surrender to U.S. terms as a greater existential threat than the economic hardship caused by sanctions.

Tehran has dismissed the threats as a familiar, failed tactic. Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei stated that Washington’s reliance on sanctions instead of diplomacy remains futile.
