One victim, initially reported with life-threatening injuries, remains in critical condition. The four others sustained wounds described as non-life-threatening. Chesterfield County police, leading the investigation with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Hanover County Sheriff's Office, lifted the lockdown at 9 a.m. while maintaining a significant presence on the grounds.

The violence struck just days before classes begin for the fall semester. While residence halls opened last week and incoming students recently concluded orientation, university officials have provided no updates on potential schedule changes for Monday. The school, a historically Black university in Ettrick, Virginia, currently serves approximately 5,700 students. Investigators continue to search for the multiple suspects involved in the altercation.
