Rahul Gandhi Served Privilege Notice Over Amit Shah Remarks

BJP MPs Anurag Singh Thakur and Sanjay Jaiswal initiated the complaints, citing the use of unparliamentary language and grave, unsubstantiated allegations against the Home Minister. Thakur’s July 30 filing argues that Gandhi bypassed standard procedural requirements for leveling such claims against a cabinet member. Jaiswal’s subsequent letter reinforces this position, urging the Secretariat to enforce strict adherence to the Rules of Procedure.

While Jaiswal acknowledged that policy criticism remains a core function of the opposition, he maintained that personal attacks against ministers violate the decorum of the legislative chamber. The Secretariat has now placed the burden on Gandhi to justify his choice of words before the deadline. Should the response fail to satisfy the Speaker’s office, the matter may proceed to a formal review of parliamentary conduct.
