IF Metall Ends Long-Running Strike Against Tesla in Sweden

The conflict, which began in October 2023, served as a high-stakes clash between the Swedish model of collective bargaining and Elon Musk’s aggressive anti-union stance. While Tesla maintains no manufacturing facilities within Swedish borders, the union’s reach extended to the technicians and service workers responsible for maintaining the company's fleet of electric vehicles.

By systematically offering severance packages to the participating workforce, Tesla effectively bypassed the need for a formal collective agreement. IF Metall acknowledged that this strategy drained the strike of its practical efficacy, leading to the decision to stand down.
