The violence unfolded Wednesday at Brown Bear Childcare, where the suspect’s wife and child were killed. Six other children present at the facility were physically unharmed, though the scene was discovered by a parent dropping off a child. Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson described the event as a horrific tragedy for the community, noting that the daycare had maintained a clean regulatory record since opening in 2019.
Authorities linked the incident to a second crime scene in Burnsville, located 20 miles away. Officers discovered a 78-year-old woman fatally stabbed at a residence where the suspect had been living. While investigators have yet to establish a clear motive for the killings, Chief Johnson confirmed the suspect had no prior history of police calls to the Hopkins address. Local officers, visibly shaken by the discovery, are currently working to reconstruct the exact timeline of the two attacks.
