SMEs represent over 90% of businesses and 70% of jobs in the region, yet many struggle to scale beyond domestic borders. Under the DHL GoTrade programme, which has already assisted 24,000 businesses globally, the partners will deliver trade education and business clinics. DHL has committed to a broader €300 million investment across Africa by 2030 to bolster these trade initiatives.
Standard Bank will leverage its export readiness tools and its connection with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China to link local producers of coffee, cocoa, and wine with international buyers. Simultaneously, MTN is addressing the digital divide by providing cloud services, secure payment processing, and connectivity. These tools are designed to streamline cross-border transactions and remote team management.
Government officials and private sector leaders emphasize that logistics alone are insufficient for growth. By aligning trade policy, financial advisory, and digital transformation, the partners intend to build a robust pipeline of companies capable of navigating the African Continental Free Trade Area. This collaboration shifts the focus from mere funding toward comprehensive operational readiness for regional and global markets.
