Fadnavis Defends FCRA Amendments as Tool for Oversight

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has dismissed concerns over proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, framing the legislative push as a necessary measure to ensure fiscal transparency. He maintains that entities operating within the law remain unaffected, while the bill targets loopholes used to facilitate illicit financial activity.

The proposed legislative changes apply universally, cutting across community lines to regulate how organizations handle international funding. Fadnavis emphasized that the administration welcomes parliamentary debate to refine these mechanisms, asserting that accountability is the primary objective of the regulatory shift.

Beyond federal policy, Fadnavis addressed domestic political optics by characterizing a recent meeting between the Nationalist Congress Party and Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a productive engagement. He underscored that the Prime Minister’s office serves the national interest rather than partisan agendas. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister confirmed his upcoming participation in the Tiranga Yatra, with scheduled appearances in Mumbai, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
