The partnership targets companies that typically struggle to secure favorable long-term financing compared to their counterparts in other European Union nations. Funding will be disbursed in euros or Romanian lei, providing firms with the necessary flexibility to match their investment cycles. EIB Vice-President Ioannis Tsakiris noted that the facility is designed to strengthen corporate resilience and help local entrepreneurs navigate a shifting economic landscape.
Nearly 80% of the total loan is earmarked for businesses operating in cohesion regions, where the EIB aims to stimulate local employment and regional development. Additionally, €15 million is specifically reserved for green initiatives, including renewable energy projects, energy efficiency upgrades, and sustainable transport solutions. This dedicated allocation builds on previous advisory efforts by the EIB to help local firms transition toward cleaner technologies.
With this latest infusion, the total financing provided by the EIB to BRD Sogelease over the past decade reaches €405 million. Gabriel Mihai, General Manager of BRD Sogelease, stated that the new capital will enhance the institution's capacity to support SMEs and Mid-Caps looking to modernize their operations. By focusing on less-developed regions, the deal provides a critical pipeline for capital that could otherwise remain out of reach for smaller Romanian market players.
