Banerjee described a narrow escape, claiming that had the vehicle windows been open, the barrage of projectiles would have resulted in fatalities. She directed sharp criticism at the police presence on-site, alleging that officers stood by as the attack unfolded. She suggested the inaction indicates a partisan alignment favoring the BJP, which she holds responsible for the atmosphere of hostility encountered during the tour.
State BJP chief Samik Bhattacharya dismissed the allegations of party involvement, framing the unrest as a spontaneous outburst of public frustration against the Trinamool Congress. He called for a formal police investigation to address the security breach. The incident occurred while Banerjee was accompanied by Lok Sabha MP Kalyan Banerjee and Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen, both of whom were present as the crowd chanted slogans demanding the removal of the ruling party.
