Speaking in Chandigarh, Tewari contended that the current framework for redrawing electoral boundaries neglects the unique security and strategic demands inherent to the nation’s northern frontiers. He insisted that these regions must retain their proportional influence rather than seeing their voices diminished in the Lok Sabha. By his estimation, the structural shift inherent in the bill creates an uneven playing field that fundamentally undermines the interests of states like Punjab.

The MP also challenged the government’s approach to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. Rather than pushing to expand the total number of seats to 850—a move he likened to the scale of China’s legislative body—Tewari proposed a more surgical implementation. He advocated for reserving one-third of the existing 543 seats for women. This alternative would bypass the controversy surrounding seat expansion, which has faced significant political headwinds. Despite the Shiromani Akali Dal signaling its support for the bill, Tewari remains steadfast in his opposition, viewing the current proposal as a detriment to the stability and representation of Northern India.
