Blackburn, 74, maintained a commanding lead over U.S. Representative John Rose throughout the campaign, capitalizing on her deep legislative history, which includes 16 years in the House and her current tenure in the Senate. Her victory sets up a general election matchup against Memphis City Councilor Jerri Green, who secured the Democratic nomination. Given that Trump carried Tennessee by nearly 30 percentage points in 2024, the governorship is widely expected to stay under Republican control.

The ballot also marked the first test of Tennessee’s redrawn congressional map, which eliminated a historically Democratic, majority-Black district in Memphis. With incumbent Democrat Steve Cohen declining to seek reelection in the altered territory, the seat is now considered safely Republican.
