While former President Joe Biden issued a preemptive pardon for Fauci in January 2025 regarding his pandemic response, Senator Paul contends the pardon is legally insufficient to negate the need for testimony. The referral now faces an uncertain path, as any full Senate vote would likely require bipartisan support that appears nonexistent. Meanwhile, the committee has reportedly secured a backup of Fauci’s government-issued iPhone, potentially opening new avenues for the ongoing inquiry.
