Munich court sentences Afghan man to life for deadly union rally attack

Farhad N., identified by the court to protect his privacy, was found guilty of two counts of murder and 23 counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors established that the February 2025 attack was religiously motivated, with the defendant claiming his actions were a response to the suffering of Muslims in Islamic nations.

The incident occurred as trade union activists were demonstrating for higher wages. The vehicle struck a crowd, killing a 37-year-old woman and her 2-year-old daughter while injuring more than 40 others. The defendant confessed to the ramming shortly after the attack, and the Munich Higher Regional Court’s ruling confirms he will remain incarcerated for the foreseeable future.
