IDB and INTERPOL Forge Security Alliance for Latin America

With organized crime evolving across Latin America and the Caribbean, the Inter-American Development Bank and INTERPOL have launched a collaborative security framework. IDB and INTERPOL Forge Security Alliance for Latin America

Brazil will serve as the initial pilot for this expanded model, backed by US$100,000 in technical cooperation funding. The program grants participating nations direct access to INTERPOL’s global networks, allowing local authorities to integrate international best practices into their domestic security strategies. IDB Group President Ilan Goldfajn emphasized that practical, accelerated support is essential to bolster public institutions against sophisticated criminal threats.

INTERPOL Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza intends to leverage the organization’s existing task force experience to enhance regional law enforcement coordination. This effort builds on prior interventions where the task force provided technical assistance in Peru, Jamaica, and Guatemala, helping shape national security plans and cross-border policies. By integrating these operations with a growing network of 14 partner organizations—including a new memorandum of understanding with the Korean National Police Agency—the IDB seeks to transform the task force into a unified platform for regional resilience.
