Jharkhand Students Plan Assembly Siege Over Recruitment Scandals

Thousands of students are threatening to surround the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on August 10, escalating a month-long standoff over alleged corruption in state recruitment exams. Protesters demand the immediate cancellation of tests managed by TSR Data Processing Private Limited and a formal investigation by federal agencies.

The ultimatum follows a period of mounting unrest regarding the Jharkhand Public Service Commission and JSSC CGL examinations. Protester Radhe Kumar stated that while local officials have initiated contact, the movement will only disperse if the government mandates a CBI and ED inquiry into the recruitment process. Students argue that systemic failures have plagued state hiring for decades and are calling for comprehensive structural reforms to prevent further manipulation.

In response, the state government has formed a ministerial committee to serve as a bridge for negotiations. State Minister Radhakrishna Kishore emphasized that Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s administration is treating the allegations with sensitivity and has urged student leaders to engage in direct dialogue. Despite these overtures, the protesters remain stationed in Ranchi, maintaining that the planned march on the Monsoon Session will proceed unless their core demands for exam cancellations and accountability are met.
