Wall Street Hits Record Highs as AI Earnings Drive Market Surge

A surge in AI-related corporate earnings coupled with renewed optimism regarding a diplomatic resolution in the Middle East propelled the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average to record closing highs on Tuesday, as investors shrugged off previous demand concerns and pushed technology stocks to significant gains.

Wall Street Hits Record Highs as AI Earnings Drive Market Surge

Palantir Technologies saw its shares soar 29.5% after lifting its annual revenue forecast, while Caterpillar jumped 5.6%, serving as a major catalyst for the Dow. The industrial giant’s growth is increasingly tied to the massive buildout of AI data centers, which continues to drive demand for its heavy machinery and power-generation equipment. This performance aligns with a broader trend; LSEG data indicates that 85.2% of S&P 500 companies reporting this quarter have surpassed estimates, significantly outpacing the long-term average of 67.5%.

Market sentiment also received a boost from falling oil prices, which dropped approximately 5% following reports of potential progress toward a deal in the Iran conflict. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that an agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could be finalized within two days. This decline in energy costs helped soothe inflationary fears, leading to a retreat in U.S. Treasury yields and lowering market expectations for a Federal Reserve rate hike in September. Despite the enthusiasm, some analysts remain cautious about the sustainability of these record-breaking valuations based on a narrow set of earnings reports.
