The vendor, currently in his 50s, survived the strike with shrapnel injuries and shock.
The attack in Kherson coincides with a broader escalation in civilian casualties across the region. Regional governor Oleh Hryhorov reported that Russian guided bomb strikes overnight in Sumy claimed the lives of two children and an elderly woman. According to the U.N. Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine, civilian casualties in the first half of 2026 rose by 37% compared to the previous year, a trend largely attributed to intensified long-range strikes on urban centers.
Both sides continue to trade accusations of targeting non-combatants. On Monday, Russian authorities alleged that a Ukrainian drone strike on the resort city of Gelendzhik killed seven people, including three children. Kyiv denied the claim, asserting that its military operations focus exclusively on Russian industrial and economic infrastructure, and arguing the Gelendzhik casualties were the result of intercepted debris.
