The Thanjavur East police booked Stalin under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act, and the IT Act. The charges stem from a public rally addressing the Cauvery water dispute, where Stalin’s comments were interpreted by some as disparaging toward Chief Minister Vijay and actor Trisha. Stalin has vehemently denied the allegations, characterizing the controversy as the product of manipulated, out-of-context video clips designed to smear his reputation.
Former ministers P Geetha Jeevan and R Gandhi led the demonstrations in their respective districts, accusing the ruling TVK government of stifling dissent. During the protests, scuffles broke out between party workers and police personnel as officers cleared road blockades. Stalin, who was transported by police from Chennai toward the investigation site, maintains that he will contest the case legally rather than be intimidated by what he describes as fabricated evidence.
