President Trump asserted on Monday that the United States had paused a major military strike against Iran following requests for diplomacy from Tehran and several Gulf nations. He characterized current efforts as a final opportunity for Iran to secure an agreement, claiming that discussions were actively underway regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran has rejected this narrative entirely. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei stated that no direct or indirect negotiations with the US are taking place. According to Baghaei, Iran's only active diplomatic channel is with Oman, focused exclusively on technical maritime traffic management. This diplomatic friction follows a reported attack by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps on a US base in Kuwait using at least three drones, alongside reports of explosions in Iraq’s Basra province. While the White House frames these events as a precursor to a deal, the reality on the ground suggests a deepening security crisis.
