The Boards of Executive Directors have engaged an international search firm to vet candidates, supported by an external expert tasked with maintaining impartiality throughout the hiring process. Before settling on a final candidate, the committee plans to conduct confidential consultations with civil society organizations and client representatives to ensure the new leadership meets broad stakeholder expectations.
This appointment follows the merger of three previously separate entities: the World Bank Inspection Panel, the World Bank Dispute Resolution Service, and the IFC/MIGA Compliance Advisor Ombudsman. By consolidating these functions, the institution aims to simplify the often-convoluted pathways for individuals seeking redress. The new Director General will operate with autonomy, reporting directly to the Boards through the Committee on Development Effectiveness rather than the Bank’s management, a structural shift intended to bolster oversight, transparency, and consistency in how the institution addresses claims of harm.
