Yaroch allegedly initiated the theft in late 2024 after becoming disillusioned with the FBI’s management of accounts linked to Russia. Court documents detail a methodical process in which he accessed internal databases to retrieve private passphrases, subsequently transferring the digital assets across a dozen transactions. When agents raided his home in Ashburn, they discovered a hardware wallet, handwritten seed phrases, and documentation indicating plans to relocate to Portugal.
Digital evidence further complicated his position, as investigators recovered phone records showing he consulted ChatGPT on how to invest the stolen funds and navigate international relocation. Following his arrest and termination, he was charged with the interstate transportation and receipt of stolen goods. While federal authorities recovered $925,426 of the missing capital, a magistrate judge has ordered that Yaroch remain in custody while the legal proceedings continue.
