Regional officials confirmed the death toll following an attack on the city of Engels, where civil infrastructure sustained significant damage. Governor Roman Busargin noted that both Engels and the nearby city of Saratov were struck, continuing a pattern of raids against areas housing critical military airbases and oil refineries.
Simultaneously, a warehouse belonging to Wildberries—Russia’s primary e-commerce retailer—was hit in the Samara region, roughly 800 kilometers from Ukrainian territory. Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev reported the strike on the facility, which is one of a dozen Wildberries sites targeted since mid-July. By focusing on the company’s logistics network, Kyiv aims to destabilize the consumer economy that sustains Moscow’s war effort. While the Russian Defence Ministry claimed to have downed 635 drones during the overnight operation, the physical damage to both civilian housing and corporate infrastructure highlights the persistent reach of these long-range strikes.
