The demonstration, held on July 31, featured Pappu Yadav in saffron robes collecting offerings while other opposition members played the roles of devotees. The performance, intended to spotlight corruption allegations surrounding Ram Mandir donations, depicted the 'priest' pocketing money, sparking immediate backlash from the BJP and various religious groups. Formal FIRs have been registered in Delhi and Varanasi, naming Pappu Yadav alongside prominent figures including Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav, Arvind Kejriwal, and Awadhesh Prasad.
Kashi Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Banswal confirmed that a case is active following a complaint from Mahant Balak Nath Ji regarding viral footage of the event. BJP leaders, including MLA Anil Kumar Sharma and Bansuri Swaraj, have demanded the immediate resignation and arrest of the participants, labeling the act a calculated conspiracy against Hindu traditions. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami joined the chorus of condemnation, characterizing the skit as evidence of deep-seated animosity toward the faith. As legal scrutiny intensifies across multiple jurisdictions, the ruling coalition continues to frame the incident as a systematic attempt by the opposition to secure political gains by disparaging religious symbols.
