Kulgam Terror Attack Sparks Political Clash in Jammu and Kashmir

The dispute centers on comments made by Farooq Abdullah, who suggested a suspicious link between the resurgence of terror incidents and the ongoing movement to restore statehood in the region. Abdullah called for a thorough investigation, noting that the identity of the perpetrators remains unknown. BJP leader Ravinder Raina dismissed this line of inquiry, labeling the remarks as deeply unfortunate and arguing that such rhetoric serves to divert attention from the militants responsible for the brutality.

Beyond the political friction, the attack has raised broader security concerns. BJP leader Altaf Thakur pointed to a pattern of violence, noting that two such incidents have occurred within ten days. Thakur criticized the current level of vigilance, particularly given that these attacks coincide with the Amarnath Yatra and a period of tourism revival in the Valley. Meanwhile, JD(U) state president G M Shaheen placed the blame directly on external actors, accusing Pakistan of orchestrating instability to sabotage peace efforts. Security forces have since cordoned off the Kellam area and launched a massive search operation to track down the militants involved in the fatal shooting.
