Opposition leaders have labeled the policy a performative gesture, noting that most of the 50,000 migrants who entered Ceuta have already returned to Morocco. Piero De Luca of the Democratic Party argued that the decision lacks a strategic basis, suggesting it functions primarily as a tool for domestic political maneuvering. The administration, currently facing pressure from the rising influence of Roberto Vannacci’s far-right faction, maintains that the temporary controls are a necessary step to secure the country’s borders amid shifting migration patterns.
