Diplomatic Shift as US Envoy Gor Meets Indian Counterpart in Dhaka

Gor, a close aide to President Donald Trump, arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday for an official visit aimed at addressing Dhaka’s recent pivot toward Beijing. Foreign policy analysts interpret the move as a direct effort to counter the so-called "Myanmar Corridor" and reassert American regional interests. While Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman characterized the mission as exploratory, the envoy’s agenda includes assessing Bangladesh’s foreign policy priorities and evaluating the status of Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazaar.

The visit marks the third trip by a senior US official since the Bangladesh Nationalist Party took office in February. Washington faces a complex diplomatic landscape, particularly regarding the stalled humanitarian corridor into Myanmar’s Rakhine State, a project currently blocked by Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman. With Secretary of State Marco Rubio also engaging Dhaka’s leadership on the sidelines of the ASEAN Forum, the administration is clearly seeking to harmonize its regional strategy with Indian diplomatic efforts. Trivedi, who assumed his post in June, remains a central figure in this coordinated push to stabilize the geopolitical trajectory of the subcontinent.
