Hyderabad police open case against Meta India head over Modi videos

V Aravind Babu, deputy commissioner of police for cyber crimes, confirmed that officials are preparing to serve a formal notice to Meta Platforms regarding the content. While the company has yet to issue a statement, the case arrives during a period of heightened scrutiny over how the platform manages political discourse in its largest global market.

Tensions recently peaked after the IT ministry summoned Meta executives to address the brief restriction of a post made by the Prime Minister. Meta attributed the censorship to an inadvertent error, claiming it was unrelated to the broader wave of online criticism and student-led protests currently targeting Modi. The government, however, continues to demand high-level explanations for how the platform handles content involving national leadership.
