In a letter to the Chief Minister and Home Minister, Gandhi described the prosecution of demonstrators as disgraceful, noting a stark contradiction between the state's actions and the support offered by national Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. He argued that the current administration is undermining the constitutional right to dissent by treating student activists like criminals.
Gandhi invoked the spirit of Satyagraha to remind the state leadership of their political heritage, urging them to act immediately to quash all pending FIRs and chargesheets. He specifically requested that the government abandon these measures regardless of the students' political affiliations, framing the police response as a blunder that requires urgent correction to align the state’s conduct with its stated values.
