Since February, the conflict between American and Iranian forces has frequently paralyzed the Strait of Hormuz, while Houthi attacks on Saudi facilities at Jizan and Yanbu have introduced significant risk to regional crude exports. Despite Brent crude prices oscillating near the one-hundred-dollar threshold, the committee remains a body built for review rather than intervention. Its primary function is to monitor conformity with existing targets, leaving the actual power to adjust production in the hands of a smaller, more secretive group of nations.

That decision rests with the narrow circle of countries—led by Saudi Arabia and Russia—that settle output via video call.
