Micron, Nvidia, and Intel led the downturn, reflecting deep-seated nerves regarding the sustainability of current capital investments. The Philadelphia SE Semiconductor Index has now shed more than 20% of its value since June, while the Roundhill Memory Exchange Traded Fund hit a two-month low after a 10% single-day drop. Analysts point to mounting cash constraints at tech giants like Alphabet and Tesla as a primary driver of the bearish sentiment.
The broader market remains fractured. While the tech-heavy Nasdaq struggled, the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed a gain of 354.49 points, bolstered by positive revenue guidance from Coca-Cola. Despite this stability, the semiconductor industry faces a tightening financial environment. Elevated interest rates threaten to increase the cost of debt for AI firms, further complicating expansion plans. Falling oil prices offered a brief reprieve, though investors appear focused on the structural challenges facing the chip sector.
