Trump, Zelensky and Netanyahu to Attend Lindsey Graham’s Funeral

A convergence of global leaders will gather at the Washington National Cathedral on Tuesday to honor Lindsey Graham, the influential South Carolina Republican who died suddenly at 71. The service follows a Capitol ceremony, marking the final chapter for a senator who championed interventionist foreign policy until his death.

Donald Trump, whom Graham transformed from an early political rival into a steadfast ally, is scheduled to deliver remarks at the service. The attendance of Volodymyr Zelenskiy and Benjamin Netanyahu underscores the late senator’s outsized role in shaping US support for Ukraine and Israel. Graham’s death on July 11 came just one day after his tenth wartime visit to Kyiv, leaving behind a legislative legacy that includes a pending bipartisan sanctions package against Russia.

Beyond his international influence, Graham’s passing leaves a void in South Carolina politics. Governor Henry McMaster has appointed the senator’s sister, Darline Graham, to serve the remainder of his term. She has already secured Trump’s endorsement for her bid to win a full six-year term in November, facing Democratic challenger Annie Andrews. A former Air Force lawyer, Graham served in the Senate since 2002, evolving from a vocal critic of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign into one of the former president’s most visible defenders on cable news.
