Egypt Consolidates Economic Control Under Presidential Authority

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has overhauled the military-linked Future of Egypt entity, transforming it into a powerful economic authority reporting directly to his office. The mandate grants the body oversight of vast state lands, tax-exempt development zones, and strategic assets, signaling a centralized shift in national economic management.

Egypt Consolidates Economic Control Under Presidential Authority

The new law, published in Monday’s official gazette, empowers the authority to manage state-owned companies and establish sustainable development zones free from standard taxation. This expansion builds on the organization’s growing footprint, which has already established it as a critical actor in global wheat procurement since 2024.

Beyond agricultural imports, the entity has aggressively diversified its portfolio by securing major stakes in the Egyptian Commodities Exchange. Its reach now spans sectors ranging from luxury real estate and renewable energy projects to the sensitive production of infant formula. By consolidating these disparate industries under a single presidential mandate, the government aims to force a faster pace of development, though the move further blurs the line between military-linked management and civilian economic governance.
